Health signals
How HealthKit and Health Connect sharing works, what we read, and how to turn it off.
Updated June 15, 2026
If you say yes, three readings from your phone can join what your clinician already sees. The default is none. You choose which ones, and you can turn any of them off whenever you want.
What HealthKit and Health Connect are
- Apple HealthKit is Apple's health data store on iPhone and Apple Watch. You grant access one metric at a time, and you can take it back the same way.
- Health Connect is Google's health data store on Android. It is the cross-platform equivalent of HealthKit.
What we read
Three daily summaries, each its own opt-in:
| Metric | What it is |
|---|---|
Sleep (sleep_duration) | How long you slept, by night. Lined up with your fourteen days so a hard night shows up next to the reflection that talks about it. |
Steps (step_count) | Daily totals only. We do not read your pace, your route, or the kind of workout you did. |
Heart-rate variability (hrv) | A single daily reading. It is noisy on its own, so we use it only when it agrees with what you wrote or how a check-in changed. |
The rules, in five lines
- One metric at a time. Sleep on, steps off, heart-rate variability on. Or none of them. The default is none.
- Your phone does the math. Your phone reads the sensors and works out the daily summary. Only that summary leaves the device. The raw readings stay with you.
- Only what we asked for. Not location, not workouts, not medications, not health records. The phone would let us read those. We do not ask.
- Turn it off any time. Two taps in the app, two taps in iOS or Android Settings. Your clinician's view updates on the next read, and any claim built from a health reading drops that part of its source.
- Every read is written down. Each time we read a signal, the read joins the same record as everything else in your account. You can ask your clinic for the dated list at any time.
How a signal is used
A health reading is never shown to your clinician on its own. It joins your reflections and check-ins as one more source behind a pattern. For example, a drop in sleep over days 3 to 6 might sit next to the reflection that mentions being up at 4 again, so the two reinforce each other rather than standing alone.
